Underbezel Set Amethyst Eye Ring in Sterling Silver

This piece was created from silver sheet, made entirely by hand. The uniqueness of this setting comes in multiple parts - it is set from underneath, creating a flawless top; it is very, very tall; its amethyst is banded at multiple angles; and it is my favorite motif - the eye. 

Amethyst, a naturally purple quartz, often shows unique visual characteristics. Banded amethyst such as this one shows the crystalline growth as the mineral was precipitating out of solution. These bands form as the chemical solution changes slightly over the course of its growth. 

Amethyst is the birthstone for February.
